In 2011, Imhotep Institute Charter High School won its third consecutive Public League basketball title, but its quest for a fourpeat fell short last year.
With Saturday’s 51-43 victory over Philadelphia Electrical and Technology Charter School, in a AAA-deciding game played at Ben Franklin High School, the Panthers sit two victories away from reclaiming the overall PL title.
On Thursday night at Southern, they will face Communications Tech, the team which knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
Should they win that game, the Panthers will face the winner of other PL semifinal between Vaux and Martin Luther King High School, which defeated Bartram 63-46. With Imhotep and MLK wins, the championship game would feature schools from East Germantown and West Oak Lane.
NewsWorks will cover Thursday’s semifinals and, if one or both Northwest Philadelphia schools advance, Sunday’s championship showdown at the Liacouras Center.
