Imhotep advances, MLK falls in high-school basketball playoffs

Imhotep Charter began their run toward a potential fourth Public League high-school basketball title Thursday with a 77-51 win over Masterman.

Nigel Grant scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Khyree Wooten scored a game high 23, including 12 in the fourth quarter. Imhotep will next face Communications Tech in the second round on Tuesday.

Another Northwest Philadelphia school to qualify for the playoffs, MLK High, was unable to escape their first-round game Thursday, falling to Olney 43-37.

With the game tied at 16 at halftime, Olney slowly crept away in the second half and avenged their regular season loss to the Cougars in January. Olney will face Bartram in the next round Tuesday.
