I-95 closing in Delaware this weekend

Drivers will be detoured off of I-95 at Route 202 in both directions starting at 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

DelDOT urges drivers heading through Delaware on the interstate to use I-495 around the city of Wilmington instead of I-95, which travels through the city. The ramps from 202 southbound onto I-95 northbound and 202 northbound onto I-95 southbound will also be closed.

The interchange, which has been a notorious rush hour bottleneck, is in the process of being completely overhauled. The work includes expanding the ramp from 95 north to 202 north from one lane to two. Workers will also remove the loop ramp from 95 south to 202 south and replace it with a more direct ramp that will connect to 202 at a new traffic signal. I-95 southbound will be lowered under the existing 202 bridge to give more vertical clearance for larger vehicles.

You can find a map and timeline of the construction work on DelDOT’s website.  The work should be completed next year.
