Howard High School freshman fatally shot in Wilmington

A 15-year-old Delaware high school student has been fatally shot, the second student at his school to die in recent weeks.

Wilmington police found Brandon Wingo lying mortally wounded Thursday afternoon a few blocks away from Howard High School of Technology. He had been shot in the head.

Howard High Principal Stanley Spoor posted a note on the school’s website confirming the shooting death of a freshman student. He said counselors would be available at the school Friday.

Wingo’s shooting comes less than a month after a fight in a school restroom left 16-year-old Amy Joyner-Francis dead. Three other students were charged in the death of Joyner-Francis, with one accused of criminally negligent homicide.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Andrea Janvier said Friday that there’s no suggestion that the deaths are related.
