‘House Hunters’ drops by Mt. Airy’s Wine Thief Bistro

Guests at the Wine Thief Bistro in Mt. Airy on Friday were met with more than their usual selection of food and drink — a chance for their 15 minutes (or seconds) of fame. The Home and Garden Channel’s popular television show “House Hunters” was in the Philadelphia area and paid a visit to the Wine Thief to do some filming.

“The show called on Tuesday to say they had searched for a wine bar near Elkins Park where the couple was looking at houses,” said owner Chris Simpson. In order to not interrupt business, the show shot at a quieter time, during the late lunch hours.

The crews filmed for over an hour at the restaurant, though it’s likely the Wine Thief will only appear on about five minutes of the show.

Throughout the production, Simpson kept his friends and guests updated through social media. “Sitting at the bar pretending to be a customer. An extra in my own business!” he wrote on Facebook.

Both Simpson and Wine Thief Bistro server Amanda Brown will appear on the episode of House Hunters which is scheduled to air in June.
