Hop Angel kicks off Fall-themed weekends with pumpkin beers, keg bowling [video]

The line at the bar was two rows deep inside Hop Angel Brauhaus Saturday.

But the real action was in the Fox Chase establishment’s beer garden. Last weekend’s Pumpkin Festival marked the first of three fall-themed weekends at Hop Angel, and as customers lounged beneath sun-shielding tents and sampled the Autumn-themed beer and food menu, owner Mike “Scoats” Scotese had a big job to do at the back of the parking lot.

There, between two bravely parked cars, patrons tried their hands at keg bowling.

An empty keg weighs 29.7 lbs., as someone finally looked up online after several failed attempts to roll and throw the keg at a set of plastic bowling pins. The overhead toss worked best for those who could lift the keg, though the curious kids who worked as a team to knock down the pins found a continuos roll worked better.

The Pumpkin Festival kicked off the Hop Angel’s fall festival series. Oktoberfest and the Harvest Festival will follow with their own musical performances, menus and beer. And yes, keg bowling.
