Holiday weekend at the Jersey Shore begins wet, ends sunny

Labor Day weekend at the Jersey Shore will begin soggy but end with abundant sunshine.

The traditional end to the Shore’s tourism season will feature periods of rain Saturday through Sunday morning as the remnants of Harvey will pass through the region.

But the National Weather Service does not anticipate any significant impacts in the area.

“Based on the idea of cloudiness, some rain and an onshore surface flow, high temperatures Saturday may not get out of the 60s for much of the area,” the latest forecast discussion from the local National Weather Service office notes.

The National Weather Service is currently forecasting between three-quarters of an inch and an inch of rain by Sunday morning. Winds will be from the southeast between 10 and 15 miles per hour.

A low pressure system that develops over the Delmarva region will shift to the north Sunday morning, pulling a warm front through the area by early afternoon, according to the latest forecast.

Any remaining showers are set to end by the early afternoon, and some breaks of sunshine should allow temperatures to rise to the upper 70s. Expect humid conditions.

Skies will continue to clear through Sunday night, leading to sunny conditions and highs around 80 degrees on Labor Day.
