Holbrooke remembered

Public figures across the country will undoubtedly offer their thoughts today on the passing of Ambassador Richard Holbrooke.  Here’s what our own Senator Bob Casey had to say about the ambassador.

“The nation has lost a devoted public servant and extraordinary diplomat who was tirelessly dedicated to the security of the United States and its allies.

“Ambassador Holbrooke was dedicated to resolving conflict, defending American interests and promoting understanding.  Throughout his diplomatic career, Richard Holbrooke was on the forefront of the most important issues in international affairs.  He served as a young diplomat in Vietnam and learned the terrible lessons of that conflict.  He was the driving force behind the Dayton Peace Accords which ended an unyielding genocide in the Balkans.  And he brought his remarkable energy, focus and judgment to the complex conflict we face in Afghanistan today.

“His vast experience and highly effective diplomatic record will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and his staff at the State Department.”
