Hens look for fresh start at Navy

The last time the University of Delaware football team played, the result was a stunning championship game defeat.  The new-look Hens start the season Saturday at Navy.

The Blue Hens left Frisco, Texas in January after a stinging loss to Eastern Washington in the FCS championship game in which Delaware gave up 20 unanswered points.  But the slate is wiped clean Saturday when the Hens head to Annapolis for an opening game contest against the Midshipmen.

There are high expectations for the Hens, despite the loss of quarterback Pat Devlin, who signed with the Miami Dolphins and is listed as their fourth string QB.  The Hens were ranked number 5 in the Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Poll.  They were number 5 in The Sports Network Pre-Season poll.  The team that beat Delaware in the championship game, Eastern Washington, ranked number one in the coaches poll with 23 of 28 first place votes.

Kickoff in Annapolis is scheduled for 3:30 on Saturday.  The Blue Hens play their first home game next week, September 10, against West Chester.
