Hammer-wielding robbers break into Philly jewelry store

Three men used sledgehammers to commit a jewelry store robbery at a Northeast Philadelphia mall, authorities said.

The robbery happened just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday inside the Zales jewelry store at Philadelphia Mills mall, formerly known as Franklin Mills, police said.

Authorities said the men broke in with a hammer and smashed their way through the store, grabbing an as-yet-undermined amount of gold and diamond rings.

The men all wore hoodies — one black, one red and one yellow. They were last seen running in the mall and apparently jumped into a hatchback car and fled.

Police were seeking surveillance camera footage from mall stores to try to identify the thieves.
