Haitian toddler dies before trip to Delaware for surgery
Melissa Chery and her mother were set to come to Delaware for a surgery to remove the toddler’s malignant tumor, but the girl died as authorities rushed to get the appropriate passports and visas in place.
Chery was to receive help from Helping Hands and Beyond, as the Wilmington News Journal reports, along with the Haiti Delaware Alliance and Haiti Family Initiative.
But Chery died in Port Au Prince before she could make it to Delaware for treatment. When she was last seen by a nurse Tuesday in Haiti, Chery’s tumor had grown and she was being treated with antibiotics.
