Grocery store opens in time for Irene, Shore venue events canceled

Good morning, Feeders! The earthquake is a thing of the past as we move into the weekend and Hurricane Irene moves toward the coast.

Some people are staying, some are going and some are just trying to rearrange their plans.

Lizz Fiedler is looking to talk to people who either have plans to evacuate or stick things out in New Jersey’s most at-risk spots. Despite a mandatory evacuation in some Shore towns, there’s always a few who stay behind for the waves. Tom MacDonald will check in with an Ocean City surf shop to see if Irene is a surfer’s dream.

While Kimberly Haas is on flood tips duty, Carolyn Beeler is talking to the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management about the silly things people do when a storm is coming.

And Peter Crimmins is heading to Northern Liberties, where Superfresh has the good fortune of opening its doors for the first time just as people begin to stock up before the storm.

In Northwest Philly, people are already hitting the supermarkets for the bread and milk.
