Breakfast with Christie: Governor to attend breakfast at Burlington Township school

Governor Chris Christie is scheduled to attend breakfast at Bernice Young Elementary School Friday as part of National School Breakfast Week.

Christie will be joined by New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher and Education Department Chief of Staff David Hespe, among others as they promote breakfast in the classroom as a way to increase nutrition options for children.

The United States Department of Agriculture says the Burlington Township school was chosen to demonstrate its successful breakfast in the classroom program.

According to the USDA, “research has shown students who eat breakfast have increased attendance, decreased tardiness, improved academic performance, improved attentiveness and reduced emotional and behavioral problems.”
