Gov. Christie announces $57M assistance package for Superstorm Sandy survivors

New Jersey residents affected by Superstorm Sandy are going to have more help in getting their lives back.
Gov. Chris Christie today announced $57 million in federal money that’s available for families who were displaced after the storm. Christie made the announcement Tuesday in Little Ferry, site of widespread flooding from the Hackensack River after the storm hit last October.
The new program, dubbed “The Working Families Living Expenses Voucher Program,” can be used by individuals and families dealing with housing related financial distress for rent or mortgage payments, utility payments, and to replace furniture and appliances. Funding will be distributed by county social service boards and other agencies.
“We’ve come a long way over the last year helping rebuild and recover from Sandy, but we also know that there are still folks out there who need help,” said Governor Christie. “People are financially strained from the impact of Superstorm Sandy and this program is designed to give those who need it a helping hand and some much needed breathing room by offsetting living expenses.”
