GOP endorses Olson, Covey and George for Pa. high court
The Republican State Committee is endorsing two appellate court judges and a county judge for an unprecedented three openings on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
At a Saturday meeting at a Harrisburg hotel, the committee endorsed Adams County President Judge Michael George, Superior Court Judge Judy Olson and Commonwealth Court Judge Ann Covey for the party’s nominations in the May 19 primary.
Only five candidates competed for the endorsements after several others dropped out.
At least one unendorsed candidate — Superior Court Judge Cheryl Allen — vowed to run against the party favorites. Allen says GOP voters decide the nomination, not the several hundred members of the state committee.
A seat on the state’s highest court carries a 10-year term and a salary that’s currently more than $203,000 a year.
