Girl dies after pulled from ocean off Sandy Hook

A 12-year-old girl rescued from the ocean off Sandy Hook late Sunday afternoon has died.
The girl was swimming at Beach E shortly before 6 p.m when lifeguards pulled her from the water, WABC reported.
Gateway National Recreation Area spokeswoman Daphne Yun told NJ.com that lifeguards immediately began CPR.
The girl, who authorities have not yet identified, was breathing when she was transported to a local hospital, where she died Monday morning, Yun said.
Amy Delmanto of Old Bridge told APP.com that lifeguards were preparing to leave for the day when the rescue happened.
“I speak a little Spanish and prayed with the family on the beach. The brother was just screaming for his sister. It was so sad,” she told NJ.com.
