‘Geeks on a Train’ roll into Philly

“Geeks on a Train” — hashtag: #GOATPhilly — pulled into 30th Street Station shortly after nine o’clock Friday.

The first wave of Baltimore technologists had just gotten off Amtrak’s Northeast Regional, and they were ready to commence their daylong exchange of ideas.

“I’m all about not reinventing wheels,” said Jason Hardebeck, chief instigator at the Greater Baltimore Tech Council.

Last May, the group organized its first Geeks on a Train event. But where that was a rolling meetup from D.C. to Boston, this was a full-on diplomatic mission.

“You hear about cool stuff going on in other cities,” said Hardebeck. “We figured this would be a good way to see it with our own eyes, do some cross-pollination, and ultimately take the best of what everybody’s doing and bring it back to our own places.”
