A 71-year-old man died as a result of injuries he sustained after being beaten in his home at Saul and Anchor streets Monday night.

The suspected killer is the man’s 44-year-old mentally ill neighbor, who police say used a pole, a shovel, a chair and his bare hands to bludgeon the elderly victim.

The attacker, whose name has not been released, then barricaded himself in his home. Police say the man owns several weapons and should be considered extremely dangerous.  It is unclear what triggered the attack.
