Former Philly corrections officer facing criminal charges

A former Philadelphia prison guard is now facing felony charges in connection with harassment of an inmate.

District Attorney Seth Williams said corrections Officer Yolanda Grier is accused of reporting that an inmate threatened to shoot her, when it was Grier who threatened the inmate at the Riverside Correctional Facilty in October 2014.

“But for the fact that we later got the videotape from the prison and saw what actually happened that we were able to put together  what really happened, and found that the person actually making the threats was the correctional officer,” Williams said Tuesday.

Williams says the inmate had no recourse after being accused by Grier, 51, something he’ll talk over with Mike Resnick, temporary leader of the city prison system.

“I will pass along to acting commissioner Resnick the suggestion that there might be a way for inmates to allege abuse and file complaints against correctional officers,” Williams said.

Grier was fired from the job she held for more than 20 years.
