Former New Jersey governor Tom Kean skipping GOP convention

A former New Jersey governor who chaired the 9/11 Commission is not going to next week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

It would be the first time in 52 years that Tom Kean will miss a convention.

The moderate Republican tells The Record newspaper he is so disillusioned with presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton that he might not vote for president.

The 81-year-old says Trump should “listen to people and stop tweeting at 11 o’clock at night.” He says Clinton has a “good heart,” but is “so contrived that it comes across as phony.”

Kean says it “it would be difficult” to vote for a Democrat, though he voted for John Kennedy over Richard Nixon in 1960.
