First Philadelphia Charter granted renewal

Despite concerns from some School Reform Commission members, First Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School’s charter has been renewed.

It was one of five charters renwed Friday, and the biggest approved expansion. With the renewal come 1,150 new seats.

First Philadelphia is on the 4300-block of Tacony Street, and is run by the same company that oversees Tacony Academy Charter School on the 1300-block of Rhawn Street in Fox Chase.

Tacony Academy’s charter was also renewed, but the school will not expand.
