A surf shop on the Ocean City boardwalk was destroyed by a fire that also damaged some neighboring stores.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which broke out around 8 p.m. yesterday in the 600 block of the boardwalk area. One employee was in the store when the fire started.

Authorities say the fire was mostly contained to the 7th Street Surf Shop and was brought under control about an hour after it began.

Smoke from the business quickly spread to surrounding blocks, and some traffic delays were reported as authorities blocked off some streets near the fire.

Some other nearby businesses had some minor smoke, water and heat damage. Officials say the damage to the other businesses “will be easy to fix.”

The stretch of boardwalk near the fire scene that was closed last night reopened this morning.

Investigators said the cause of the blaze remained under investigation today.
