‘Feastahickon’ supports Wissahickon Valley preservation

Local restaurants are teaming up with the Friends of the Wissahickon (FOW) to help raise funds for preservation efforts at Wissahickon Valley Park.

On select days throughout the spring, restaurants will donate a portion of their profits to support the park.

“It’s part of a new business partnership that we’re trying to get started with area restaurants that promotes the Friends and allows for more business to be generated at restaurants,” said Ruffian Tittmann, development director of the FOW.

Roxborough’s Valley Green Inn kicks off the initiative this Wednesday by donating 10 percent of the day’s gross sales to Wissahickon Valley Park.

“It’s a real win win for people,” Tittman said. “Locals are out supporting a local business while supporting their local non-profit.”

Tittman says the money raised from Wednesday’s event will go toward the FOW’s sustainable trails initiative, environmental restoration project and watershed protection program, among other things.

“We hope they make it a community night out and push their neighbors to come out and do it too,” she said.

Members of the Friends of the Wissahickon will still receive their 10 percent discount that day, or they can choose to donate it back to FOW. For reservations, call 215-247-1730 or visit www.valleygreeninn.com.

The next Wissahickon Valley fundraiser will take place at Trolley Car Diner in Mt. Airy and Trolley Car Cafe in East Falls from Apr. 18 through Apr. 24.
