Excessive heat warning issued for parts of NJ, Philadelphia, and suburbs

Cooling stations are opening around New Jersey and Hazy, hot and humid conditions are blanketing Philadelphia and its suburbs as the forecast calls for several days of heat ahead.

New JerseyAn excessive heat warning is in effect from noon until 6 p.m. Thursday for Mercer, Gloucester, Camden and northwest Burlington counties.

Forecasters say the heat and humidity will combine to make it feel like it is 100 degrees.

The National Weather Service says temperatures are likely to remain in the 90s for the rest of the week, however it is expected to be less humid on Friday.

For those looking to beat the heat at the beach, there is a moderate risk for dangerous rip currents in Ocean County. There is an elevated low risk along the rest of the Jersey shore.

PennsylvaniaAn excessive heat warning is in effect for the city and Delaware, eastern Chester, eastern Montgomery and lower Bucks counties between noon and 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Heat and humidity will combine to make it feel like it is 100 degrees.

Temperatures are only expected to drop into the upper 70s in urban areas during the evening.

The humidity is expected to be higher on Thursday.

Wednesday is a Code Orange air quality action day in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Conditions will keep ozone unhealthy for sensitive groups.
