DSU fires head Football Coach Al Lavan

Delaware State University has fired head Football Coach Al Lavan after a 3-and-8 season.

DSU Athletics Director Derek Carter said “it is time for a change.”  Defensive coordinator Rayford Petty has been appointed interim coach.

Lavan went 41-and-36 over seven seasons at Delaware State, which included a 2007 MEAC championship and an historic first-ever meeting with the University of Delaware in that year’s post-season.   However, the Hornets went 12-and-20 combined in the following three seasons.

A national search for a new head coach is underway.
