A Milford man faces animal cruelty charges after police say he stabbed his girlfriends two pit bulls following a verbal dispute.

State Police arrested 27-year-old Denzel Brown Wednesday morning following a fight with his girlfriend at their home on North Union Church Road in Milford. According to police, Brown’s girlfriend put her two adult dogs in separate crates inside the home before she left the home. As she was leaving, police say Brown went back into the house and then emerged, telling the woman that he stabbed the dogs with a knife because they were fighting.

Brown is charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, two counts of animal cruelty and criminal mischief. He’s being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $16,100 cash bond.

Delaware Animal Control arrived at the home to take the dead dogs away.
