Delaware women stay perfect in CAA

With a game-leading 35 points from Elena Delle Donne, the Blue Hens easily topped Hofstra in front of a sell-out crowd in Newark.  

 

The Hens won 79-63 in a high scoring game broadcast live on WHYY.  Thanks in part to Delle Donne’s four three-pointers, Delaware’s record improves to 18-3 overall, and they remain undefeated in the CAA with nine wins.  It’s the 12th win in a row for the Hens this season.  They’ve won 28 straight CAA games stretching over three seasons.

The team showed no signs of being tired, despite playing five games over the past eight days.  They head out on the road for the next two CAA contests, against Towson on Thursday and at James Madison on Sunday.

Monday the team received more praise.  The AP has named the Blue Hens the number 20 team in the nation.  It is the highest ranking since November.  And Elena Della Donne was named to the Capitol One/CoSIDA Academic All-American team for the 3rd year in a row.

If there were any lingering questions about Elena Delle Donne’s return to form, they were squashed on Sunday behind a 35 point, 9 rebound performance, helping the Blue Hens cruise past Hofstra, 79-63, for their 13th straight win. Delle Donne was named espnW player of the week for her performance, which leaves her just 30 points shy of breaking the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) career scoring record of 2,667, set by Dawn Evans of James Madison from 2007-11.  It’s going to be fun to watch.
