The Delaware Attorney General’s Office says charges have been dismissed against a New Jersey man accused of raping a University of Delaware student.

Department of Justice spokesman Carl Kanefsky said in an email Monday that charges were dropped against 21-year-old Paul Defeo of Butler, New Jersey, on Jan. 8. He says prosecutors decided there was not enough evidence to secure a conviction.

Defeo was arrested on April 18 after a woman told Newark Police that she had met a man the night before at a restaurant and he had sexually assaulted her later at her home.
