Dealer pleads guilty in drug-related death
A southern New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from another man’s drug-related death last year.
The Ocean County prosecutor’s office said Friday that 22-year-old Nicholas Ippolito of Point Pleasant pleaded guilty to manslaughter and heroin distribution charges.
He was charged in connection with the Dec. 19 death of Joseph Piezzo, a 25-year-old Brick man who died from a reaction to prescription drugs and heroin.
Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato says seven people have been charged in just over a year in Ocean County under the ‘strict liability statute,’ which holds dealers accountable for a death resulting from the intake of the drugs they sell. Three of those charged have pleaded guilty to date.
