If you are smelling what appears to be a fire in the Berkeley Township area, don’t worry; there’s no emergency.

Fire crews are conducting a “controlled burn” in a wooded area near Davenport Road and Dover Road, according to a release from the Berkeley Township Police Department.

A controlled burn is a fire prevention technique that “safely [reduces] excessive amounts of brush, shurbs, and trees,” according to smokeybear.com.

Most of New Jersey is currently abnormally dry.
