Complicated relationships

On Radio times today, guest host Tracy Matisak talks politics and family.

First, a discussion about what the mid-term results tell us about the state of the political/cultural divide in Pennsylvania, especially between the Philadelphia metropolitan area and the rest of the state.

Then, Linguist Deborah Tannen says sister relationships are “tugged by two dynamics – closeness and competition.” She says sisters strive for the right blend of closeness and independence asking, “How are we the same? How are we different?”

Sounds like the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the city of Philadelphia are in one big, fat sister relationship.
