Coastal Preserve could get $300,000 upgrade

Thompson Island Preserve near Rehoboth Beach could get about $300,000 worth of improvements.

Those improvements include widening existing trails at the preserve, and improving accessibility for the disabled. The preserve is part of Delaware Seashore State Park that was purchased by the state in 1990. State archaeologists say American Indians once used the island as a base camp, a place to store goods, and as a burial ground.
