Cindy Bass upset at slow snow removal in Northwest Philly

Councilwoman Cindy Bass is upset about how the streets department is handling snow removal in her Northwest Philadelphia district.

Bass says she has been receiving many complaints.

“We would have preferred that they had done much more coverage, but we understand resources are taxed they are doing the best that they can but it still isn’t enough,” Bass said. “We need a lot more to be done and we want to look at it in the future as we have these strange, very strange weather patterns.”

Streets Commissioner David Perri says the back-to-back storms hurt their snow removal activities.

“Because the ice storm followed up so closely on the heels of the snowstorm, we had to cut some of our plowing operations short to prepare for the icestorm,” Perri said. “Once we came back we were blocked by downed trees and the rain had soaked in with snow had frozen together into a heavy mass of ice.”

Perri says crews are currently working to clear the problem areas.
