Christie names New Jersey secretary of higher education

N.J. Gov Chris Christie has named the state’s first secretary of higher education. Former Acting Deputy Commissioner of Education and Acting Education Commissioner Rochelle Hendricks will take on the role.

As the Star-Ledger reports, Hendricks was considered as the permanent education commissioner, and also declined the role as superintendent of Newark schools. Christie calls Hendricks the higher education advocate he promised when he ran for governor.
