Christie appoints Robert Lougy new acting attorney general

Gov. Chris Christie has appointed a new attorney general.

Christie on Monday named Robert Lougy as acting attorney general to replace John Hoffman. Hoffman is leaving the position next month to become general counsel at Rutgers University.

Lougy is the first assistant attorney general and has worked for the state’s law and public safety department for 10 years. He was previously a public defender in Essex County.

The Cranbury resident graduated from Penn State University and received his law degree from Columbia Law School.

Hoffman had served as acting attorney general since 2013. He is one of many Christie appointments with acting in their title because his appointment hadn’t been submitted to the state Senate to consider.
