Child, woman die in North Philly house fire overnight

A woman and young child are dead after an overnight house fire in North Philadelphia.

KYW-TV reported that authorities haven’t released the names of the victims from the fire that occurred just after midnight Saturday.

The station says five people made it out alive, and the survivors are crediting working smoke detectors for alerting them.

The Red Cross tells the station they’re helping 11 people.

The cause is being investigated.
