Chestnut Hill beats Mt. Airy 11-10 in Junior Baseball Tournament match

Chestnut Hill pulled off a stunning comeback last night to beat Mt. Airy in the 11-year-olds (11U) Junior Baseball division. The game is part of the 21st Ward baseball tournament being played this week in Roxborough.

Mt. Airy dominated the field for five of the six-inning game.

At the bottom of the 6th and final inning Mt. Airy was leading 10-1 over Chestnut Hill.

In an inspired final stand Chestnut Hill did something remarkable. It suddenly was connecting with the ball that translated into runs. In the final half of the 6th inning Chestnut Hill scored 10 runs to beat Mt. Airy 11-10.

For the Mt. Airy team, it might have been sheer fatigue and the heat that led to their collapse, but its players did well and only lost by one-point.

A Chestnut Hill coach told NewsWorks that up till the final inning his team was holding back. “They were holding their hits.” But when they finally swung the bat the results were nothing less than the ultimate comeback.

Because of earlier losses in the Roxborough 21st Ward Tournament for both teams, this was the final game for the two teams.
