Casino signs four-year deal to sponsor Mummers Parade
ListenAn area casino is stepping up to ensure there is a Mummers parade in Philadelphia for the next four years.
SugarHouse Casino has signed a new, four-year agreement to be title sponsor of the Mummers New Year’s Day parade, said Wendy Hamilton, casino general manager.
“We said, ‘What’s good for Philadelphia is good for SugarHouse,’ and so we worked on this deal for a very long time so it works for everyone,” she said Friday. “We’re excited to do it.”
SugarHouse is also sponsoring the New Year’s Eve fireworks displays in Philadelphia.
That takes the burden to pay for them off the city, said Mayor Jim Kenney.
“We’re always challenged when it comes to funding … we have schools and city services to fund,” he said. “Having a company like SugarHouse to step up is terrific so the taxpayer doesn’t have to pay for it.”
Fireworks shows are planned for 6 p.m. and midnight at Penn’s Landing.
