Candidates chosen for Northern Liberties, Queen Village spokedog contests

Fifty dogs are vying for a chance to help protect Philadelphia’s waterways, and soon that number will be down to 30.

Twenty-five dogs each from Northern Liberties and Queen Village are finalists in the Philadelphia Water Department’s Spokesdog contest.
Like their counterparts in Northwest Philadelphia, they’ll team up with their owners to appear at events reminding dog owners to clean up their pets’ waste and prevent water contamination.

The public has until May 1 to vote for their favorites, at which point the 30 most vote-getting dogs will be chosen to compete in pageants. One dog from each neighborhood will win the top prize, which includes $200 in gifts from a local pet store.
