Caldecott Award winner Jerry Pinkney visits Philadelphia
This week, an alumnus of the University of the Arts has come back to Philadelphia.
Jerry Pinkney, one of the most successful chidlren’s book illustrators working today, won a Caldecott Award in 2010 for his “Lion and Mouse” book, based on the Aesop fable. He is the only individual African-American to win the coveted children’s book award.
Pinkney also has his own traveling museum exhibition, “Witness: The Art of Jerry Pinkney,” which will come to the Philadelphia Museum of Art this summer.
This week he is in town for the “Art Unleashed” fundraising sale for UArts, to which he has donated several paintings.
