Burglary spree hits Delaware shopping center
Newark Police are searching for a man who burglarized six businesses and tried to steal from three more in the early hours of the morning on Thursday.
Police responded to a burglar alarm at the Fulton Paper store around 2:39 a.m. on Thursday. Once inside, they saw that a burglar had pried open the front door and then pried open the cash register before fleeing the scene.
As they canvased the area for clues, they discovered that the burglar had gotten inside six other stores, stealing money from several locations. In addition to the Fulton Paper store, the suspect broke into Joy Garden, Bagelmania, Curves, Spa-Lon, and Post Net. He also unsuccessfully tried to get into the Wireless Zone, the Blue Crab Grill and EZ Loan.
The suspect’s activity inside the Bagelmania store was captured on the store’s surveillance cameras and give police a good look at who they’re looking for. In the video, the suspect uses some sort of crow bar to pry his way into the cash register.
The suspect is described as a white male, about six feet tall, with grayish brown hair.
Investigators say the same suspect may also have been responsible for a heist at the Applebee’s restaurant also in Suburban Plaza back on May 20. In that burglary, the suspect entered the restaurant around 5:30 a.m. and made off with the restaurant’s safe.
Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity should contact Newark Police Detective Greg D’Elia at 302-366-7110 ext. 132 or by email at greg.delia@cj.state.de.us. Anonymous tips can be sent by text message by texting 302NPD and your message to TIP411.
