Bridge at accident site needs major repairs

An investigation into a state bridge inspection report reveals the Corsons Inlet Bridge in Cape May County is in serious need of repairs. Two teenagers escaped injury Tuesday when their car plunged off the bridge.

The Press of Atlantic City reports the bridge’s railings weren’t built to handle the impact of a vehicle, and a 2007 report says the bridge is structurally deficient.

Repairs to the bridge would cost $39 million. The Bridge Commission will accept bids for railing repair costs this month.
