Brick police arrest home health aid for theft

Authorities say a home health aide allegedly stole $19,000 while working for an elderly southern New Jersey resident.

Brick police say 46-year-old Sheila McFadden of Asbury Park faces theft charges.

McFadden allegedly took several checks from the resident’s home last year. Brick police learned of the thefts in December, after McFadden was arrested by Lakewood police while attempting to cash one of the stolen checks.

Investigators determined that 11 additional checks were taken from the victim and ultimately cashed.

Lakewood police have charged McFadden with forgery and receiving stolen property.

McFadden was being held in the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail, and it was not known Tuesday if she had retained an attorney.
