Body recovered at Sandy Hook

Updated: 8/7/15, 11:55 a.m. – The body has been positively identified as the 25 year old swimmer who went missing on Wednesday night from Beach B at Sandy Hook, according to a statement released by Daphne Yun of the Gateway National Recreation Area. The victim, Andros Vega-Pena, was from Red Bank, NJ.

A body has been found in the surf near where a swimmer disappeared off Sandy Hook in New Jersey. 

Gateway Recreation Area spokeswoman Daphne Yun says a fisherman spotted the body between beaches C and B around 6 a.m. Friday.

That area is near where a 25-year-old Monmouth County man disappeared while swimming around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Lifeguards had gone off duty at 6 p.m.

Yun says officials are waiting for authorities to identify the body.
