Update 11:47 p.m. NJ 101.5 reported tonight that the body found earlier today in the D&R Canel in Lawrence, N.J. has been identified as Martha Runyon, who was reported missing Monday.

Lawrence Township Police and the Trenton Fire Department recovered a woman’s body at 10 a.m. this morning from the Delaware & Raritan Canal. The site is less than half a mile away from the home of missing Lawrence resident Martha Runyon, 60, where she was seen last on Sunday evening.

According to the Times of Trenton, Mercer County First Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said, “The body was found to be bloated, from being underwater.” The decomposition of the body is “consistent” with the timeline of Runyon’s missing person search.

The Times reports that authorities have not confirmed if the body found today was Runyon’s, but Onofri stated that body’s hair matched the descriptions of Runyon. He is waiting to make a positive identity on the body after today’s 1:30 p.m. autopsy report comes back.

Police have been searching for Runyon since her husband reported her as missing on Monday morning. The Prosecutor’s office does not suspect foul play and maintains that Runyon has no physical or mental conditions.
