Big Belly solar compactors installed in Chestnut Hill

After some back-and-forth regarding aesthetic and sanitation issues, Chestnut Hill has finally installed its Big Belly solar compactors. The large covered cans seen in neighborhoods around Center City now dot Germantown Avenue.

NewsWorks’ Yasmein James reports the compactors were installed Wednesday after residents agreed the increased can space outweighs concerns over the germy handles and bulky appearance.

Unlike some of the Big Bellies around town, the Chestnut Hill ones won’t feature wraps or promotions.
