Bear house fire ruled arson

An early morning house fire in Bear has been determined arson by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office.

The blaze broke out just after 5 a.m. Wednesday morning at a home on Saratoga Court in the Valley Wood community.

Two residents were home, but managed to escape without injury; however, the family dog died in the fire. Damage is estimated at $200,000.

The state fire marshal’s office is continuing to investigate the person or persons responsible for the arson and is asking anyone with information to submit tips to the New Castle Division of the State Fire Marshal at 302-323-5375 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
