Ballot question quandary

You may think you’re ready for tomorrow’s election. You may know who you plan to vote for in the mayoral race, the council race — maybe even in the row office and judicial races. But are you prepared for the ballot questions?

We didn’t think so.

Tomorrow city voters will be asked two “yes or no” questions when they go to the polls tomorrow. One asks whether Philadelphia should establish a rainy day fund, to put away some money for hard times. The other asks if the city should borrow about $111 million for infrastructure work.

If you think those two ballot questions sound contradictory, you’re not alone. On this week’s It’s Our Money podcast, Doron Taussig and Holly Otterbein try to clear up the confusion and address some of the questions that might pop into your head in the voting booth, like, “A rainy day fund? Isn’t it raining now?”  Click and listen: In just a few short minutes, you’ll be prepared to be a fully informed voter. It’s Our Money is a joint project of the Daily News and WHYY, funded by the William Penn Foundation, that works to shed light on where your tax dollars are going.
