Authorities: Elderly man struck, killed by car in Somers Point, N.J.

Authorities say a 90-year-old man who was struck and killed while trying to cross a southern New Jersey roadway apparently was looking for his parked car when the accident occurred.

The Press of Atlantic City reports Frank Bendel, of Moorestown, was struck around 8:30 p.m. Friday on Mays Landing Road in Somers Point. He was flown to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Authorities say Bendel had eaten dinner at a restaurant not far from where he was hit. But he apparently forgot where he had parked and then became confused while looking for the vehicle.

Police found his car parked in a lot next to the restaurant.
