Atlantic City property Trump wanted up for auction
A former boarding house that Donald Trump unsuccessfully tried to grab to expand one of his Atlantic City casinos is up for auction.
Trump was thwarted by 91-year-old widow Vera Coking. She fought the state Casino Reinvestment Development Authority from condemning the property through eminent domain in the 1990s. Trump wanted to convert the land next to Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino into a parking lot.
Much has changed since. Atlantic city’s real estate market is sagging and Trump Plaza may close in September.
Real estate agent Nate Chait tells The Press of Atlantic City he gives Coking credit for holding her ground and prevailing.
The boarding house has been listed for $995,000 since September. The starting bid for the July 31 auction is $199,000.
